A group of local clergy came to Westminster to explore the Houses of Parliament with the Bishop of Ely and MP Lucy Frazer this week.
The group gained a unique insight into the two Chambers, seeing the Bishop’s robing room as well as following Lucy through the Chamber to vote. The group saw the petition bag which sits behind the speaker’s chair and which is the source of the phrase ‘it’s in the bag!’
After the tour, there was a question and answer session with questions mostly focusing on education and infrastructure issues around the constituency.
Lucy said “It was great to arrange a tour with Bishop Stephen for the clergy in my constituency. The Bishop showed us places I had never been to in the House of Lords and I learnt facts I never knew! I think collaborative working is so beneficial and important and I was delighted to have this opportunity. It was also great to hear from the clergy as to the issues that concern them. We talked about education which is close to my heart and I look forward to working with them as the years progress.”
Bishop Stephen said “Lucy and I share a keen interest in and engagement with education and it was good to have a further opportunity to discuss these issues.”
