On a recent visit to Burrough Green Primary School, Lucy Frazer MP, enjoyed talking with representatives of the School Council before a more formal meeting with Head Teacher, Keith Archer, to discuss the national funding formula and address concerns the school had in relation to future funding.
The children on the Council regaled Lucy with recent achievements, top of the list being the changes to school meals. In addition they talked about their endeavours to raise funds for a number of important projects including new playground equipment for the school, aid for refugees from Syria and contributions towards vital water projects abroad.
Lucy explained how her role as an MP was similar to their work on the School council. The children were bursting with questions for their MP and after guessing how many constituents Lucy represents, they proceeded to ask her where she went to school, what she had wanted to do when she was younger, and what she enjoyed about being an MP. The children also showed an interest in more global issues including Brexit, refugees and the voting age, which those present believed should be lowered. The discussion concluded with Lucy being asked her most important tip for success. Lucy told the pupils “aim high and never be afraid of failure.”
Following this, Lucy met with Burrough Green Primary Head, Keith Archer, to hear his concerns over future funding and assure him of her concerted efforts to deliver increased funding for schools in the constituency and make Ministers aware of any specific issues relating to individual schools.
Lucy said, “The Burrough Green School Council made me very welcome and I enjoyed exchanging insights into their work and mine. We had quite a lot in common, including enjoying our roles and feeling positive about our efforts to change things for the better. I would like to pay tribute to Head Teacher, Keith Archer, who is retiring at the end of this term. Burrough Green Primary School has much to be proud of both in terms of achievement and the nurturing environment which enables pupils to flourish. I am sure Mr Archer will be greatly missed but that the school will continue to go from strength to strength building on the very solid foundations he, together with a dedicated team of staff, governors and parents have built. “
