Lucy Frazer MP brought together key parties involved in Ely's Local Urgent Care Service (LUCS) including Tracy Dowling, Chief Operating officer of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, Matthew Winn the Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Community Services which owns the site and Scott Haldane, Director of Finance Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust. It was an extremely positive meeting to discuss the upcoming pilot and how to sustain and increase the services at the Princess of Wales.
Earlier this year Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) approved the business case to develop the first phase of the Ely hub with the proposal that it will, provide a local ‘one stop’ service for those with urgent, but not life threatening, health issues; integrate local services (primary care, minor injury services, and community care), expand the scope to treat a wider range of conditions and give patients the opportunity to have their minor illnesses and injuries seen locally, giving a clear alternative to A&E.
The CCG has been working alongside local GP practices and staff from the MIU in Ely to help shape and develop the LUCS Hub pilot to ensure it meets the needs of local patients and services. This pilot will begin in the coming months.
Following the meeting, Lucy said, "It is extremely exciting to see the LUCS pilot start to take shape. The fact it is happening is, in large part, thanks to the demand and support from the local community and as the pilot starts I hope that the public will continue to support the services at the Princess of Wales to take pressure off A&E and ensure that LUCS delivers the best possible local care."
