Photographer Helena g Anderson contracted Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, the second most common cause of facial palsy, in March 2016. The condition is a type of shingles infection that affects certain nerves in the head.
Due to lack of awareness, this condition is frequently being misdiagnosed. According to charity Facial Palsy UK, approximately half of those contracting the condition do not receive the correct treatment in time, risking permanent facial disability.
During the week of 19th March, a photographic exhibition, entitled ‘Facial Palsy – A Photo Diary’, will be on display in the House of Commons. The exhibition catalogues photographer and Cambridge resident, Helena g Anderson’s journey and is aimed at raising awareness about facial palsy.
The exhibition is supported by charity Facial Palsy UK and backed by Lucy Frazer MP for South East Cambridgeshire and Helen Whately MP for Faversham and Mid Kent.
