Today sees the launch of the ‘Older People Spotlight’ period in Parliament. This initiative will run from today, 22nd March 2017 until 23rd April 2017.
In conjunction with the launch of this older people awareness month, the ‘Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness’, established in Jo Cox’s memory, held a drop in event to further focus minds on the impact of loneliness and what can be done better to tackle it in all its forms.
Lucy Frazer MP said, “Jo Cox was passionate about combatting loneliness and her friends who are continuing her good work should be applauded. There are a number of charities tackling loneliness in our community and of course, many individuals who take the time to visit the elderly and alleviate their loneliness. We live in a very giving and caring community but, of course, we can always do more. I am sure that initiatives such as the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness, and the ‘Older People Spotlight’ month in Parliament will help raise awareness and prompt further action when it comes to helping tackle loneliness.”
