On a sunny Saturday 8th July, Lucy Frazer MP joined the community of Little Thetford at the annual Little Thetford Feast where she was honoured to officially open the fete and judge a number of competitions ranging from cakes to fruit and veg oddities to local artwork!
Lucy said, “It was a privilege to be opening the Feast alongside local hero, Bert Russell who was recently crowned as 'The Ely Hero', the most coveted title, at the recent Ely Hero Awards. He was nominated for this award for being ‘an integral part of life in Little Thetford for most of his 90 years.’ This community spirit was well in evidence at the Feast and I enjoyed chatting to many residents and what’s more, judging the various competitions and sampling some wonderful home baked cakes!”
The event was a huge success and proceeds raised will go towards funding a defibrillator, an essential lifesaving piece of equipment for the village. Lucy added 'I think the cause, to raise money to buy a public access defibrillator for the village is a most worthy one. When someone has a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces their chances of survival by 7-10%. If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74% so this really is a piece of equipment worth having readily available in the community."
