A drop in meeting for residents of Queen Adelaide and Prickwillow, called by Lucy Frazer MP took place on Thursday 14th September at Queen Adelaide Village Hall.
The meeting was in response Network Rail’s plans to look into improving train capacity in the area and the consequent potential impact on the level crossings in Queen Adelaide.
Local MP, Lucy Frazer, arranged for residents of Queen Adelaide and Prickwillow to meet with Network Rail and the County Council to enable them to exchange views. The meeting was an initial discussion to allow residents to explain how they currently use the road network in the area and what the impact would be regarding any proposed changes to existing level crossings which Network Rail feel may hinder the ability to increase the train service through Ely.
If any works are to be carried out a formal consultation process would have to take place.
Lucy Frazer said, “If there are to be rail improvements in the area and Queen Adelaide and Prickwillow residents are affected by those, I consider it essential to involve local residents in the process from the beginning. I understand the concern of those living in Queen Adelaide and Prickwillow. This is the reason that I called an Open Meeting this evening, which was publicised locally by Cambridgeshire County Council. I was, and continue to be, extremely keen to make sure the concerns of local residents are heard and fed back to both Network Rail and Cambridgeshire County Council to make sure that if train capacity is increased, and there is an impact on the crossings, residents are consulted and informed at every stage.
"At tonight’s meeting, it was useful to meet with and talk to many residents. They raised legitimate concerns about travel to school, the impact on businesses, the need for urgent access to the area from emergency vehicles, and concerns from local farmers. I am happy to, and will arrange further Open Meetings to ensure residents get an opportunity to speak directly to Network Rail and to get their views heard."
