The need to recruit enough quality teachers as pupil numbers continue to rise is an issue with which Lucy Frazer MP is particularly engaged. Consideration must be given to both the issues that cause so many to leave teaching and to steps that can be taken to encourage more graduates to choose teaching as a career in the first place. It is with the latter question in mind that Lucy approached Amanda Norman from the University of Cambridge’s career services. Lucy and Amanda met up at the beginning of the year for an initial discussion and followed up this week with a round table discussion on the subject involving students, careers staff and teaching staff. Lucy commented, “Hearing from potential recruits and those in influencing positions is so critical when it comes to considering how best to confront this issue and I’m very grateful to all those who made time to attend the meeting last week.”
