It has been a long road (no pun intended) but at last there is welcome news for Kingfisher Estate with regards to getting the problematic unadopted roads up to a standard where the County Council will adopt them.
Lucy Frazer MP reveals today that the latest news from Vine Technical Services, who are managing the adoption process on behalf of the various developers, is that work commenced on the sewers and highways on the estate on 24 April 2017 to make them adoption ready.
The issue with many of the main roads leading into the Kingfisher Estate in Soham is a longstanding one. The roads in question were left half-finished when the original housing developer went out of business in 2006 which meant that they were never formally adopted by Cambridgeshire County Council. Their condition has only worsened over time and resolving the situation is something Lucy Frazer MP has worked on since she was elected in May 2015.
“I have been aware of the issues at Kingfisher Estate in Soham since I was elected in 2015 and have been progressing matters by liaising with the other developers building on the site, Barrett Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Cambridge Housing Society as well as the County Council for some time. As the situation did not seem to be being progressed with sufficient speed, I arranged a meeting with all these parties in my office in Ely in October 2016 and since then I have continued to press them for action to bring the roads up to standard and adopt the roads.
“I am pleased that this latest round of work has now commenced. Prior to the work beginning it was identified that some existing issues had worsened and additional remedial works would be required. It is therefore anticipated that the work will take 10 weeks to complete.
“Once the work is completed the developer will serve a section 37 notice to the County Council signalling that they believe the road is ready for adoption.
“I am delighted with this progress."
