A development of 12 new properties in the village of Willingham was officially opened by Conservative MP Lucy Frazer on Friday 7 July to mark the end of Rural Housing Week.
Rural Housing Week aims to highlight rural housing issues and showcase housing associations' innovative solutions to support rural communities through affordable housing.
The Daniels End development has been built via a partnership between affordable housing provider CHS Group, Cambridge and County Developments and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Situated to the north of Cambridge, the affordable housing scheme offers one, two and three bed homes, with six available for social rent and six for shared ownership.
Nigel Howlett, chief executive at CHS Group, said: “It is our duty to identify housing needs and provide affordable, quality accommodation to people living in rural locations across Cambridgeshire where we know there is a shortage of homes. We are very proud that we are able, alongside our partners, to officially open this development today to mark the end of Rural Housing Week.”
Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, said: “It is a great pleasure to be opening Daniels End. Increasing affordable housing and helping people onto the property ladder is absolutely crucial. Having doubled investment in housing to more than £20 billion, the current government is supporting the largest affordable housing programme since the 1970s. The Housing White Paper outlines an ambitious plan to fix the housing market and build the homes Britain needs and developments such as Daniels End are to be greatly welcomed.”
As well as doing the honours of declaring Daniels End officially open, Lucy met with Chief Executive of CHS, Nigel Howlett. They exchanged thoughts on funding solutions for supported housing and on rent policy for Housing Associations in the light of forthcoming changes due in 2020.
