Today marks the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service.
Free at the point of delivery, the NHS treats over a million people a day in England and saves thousands of lives every year. I am sure each of us can recount a time when we, or someone we love, has benefitted from the excellent care of one or more of its 1.3 million staff.
As the MP for South East Cambridgeshire, I have worked over many years with regional health leaders to improve healthcare provision for my constituents - whether it's by successfully campaigning for Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, helping to secure additional diagnostic resources at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely, or collaborating with local partners to save Priors Field Surgery in Sutton.
As the Government pledges an additional £3.3 billion for the NHS this year and next, and rolls out it's Long Term Workforce Plan to fix recruitment and retention issues, I will keep fighting for better healthcare standards in our area.
