Our small-to-medium sized businesses are the lifeblood of our national economy and it’s no different in South East Cambridgeshire.
However, I know just how much the pandemic and the global energy crisis have impacted businesses in my constituency in recent years.
As the Member of Parliament, I want to be responsive to the challenges faced by my local businesses, which is why I recently organised a business roundtable for ten CEOs based at Lancaster Way Business Park in Ely, along with Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce. The meeting was kindly hosted by CMR Surgical and Grovemere Property Limited.
During the session, we discussed a range of topics, including how the Government can facilitate business growth, how participants can take advantage of future market opportunities and how all parties present can work together to close the skills gap in the workforce. On skills, it was particularly encouraging to see all parties express an interest in closely co-ordinating on the Local Skills Improvement Plan for our area to ensure that our schools and further education institutions are offering the skills that our local businesses are looking for.
I look forward to meeting more businesses at other business parks in my constituency in the coming months.
