I have launched an online survey to ask local residents what they think about GCP plans for a road user charge in Cambridge City and parts of South Cambridgeshire.
Under current proposals, the charge would operate on weekdays from 7am to 7pm and would be set at £5 for cars and motorbikes, with higher charges for larger vehicles. Some drivers would be eligible for exemptions, discounts or reimbursements. The revenue raised would be invested in bus services.
I have been working hard over many years to improve local bus services for my constituents, most recently to protect the ‘Ely Zipper’, as well as fighting against Stagecoach’s cuts to local services.
I am not currently convinced that a road user charge is the right way forward for our area.
I also recognise that many of my constituents have significant concerns about road pricing, especially the financial impact the GCP’s plans could have on individuals, families and businesses who need to travel into the charging zone.
It is important that as the GCP’s plans are considered, decision-makers at Cambridgeshire County Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council listen to local residents.
That is why I am launching this survey to gather views from across the local area and give my constituents a platform so that their voice is heard.
My online survey will be open for one month, closing on 7th December 2022. The feedback from local residents will be included in my written response to the GCP on its plans. My survey can be accessed here: https://www.lucyfrazer.org.uk/form/survey-on-gcp-s-road-charging-pl
