I recently met with Simon Blanchflower, the Chief Executive of East West Rail, where we discussed the Government’s recent announcement of £760 million in new funding to support the new East West Rail line, which is a vital project for the region and will better connect communities across the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, boosting the region’s economy and delivering more job opportunities.
East West Rail will deliver the line in phases and are hoping to reach Cambridge by the end of the decade. They will be consulting on route options for the section between Bedford and Cambridge in the coming weeks and I would encourage all my constituents with an interest in the project to engage with that consultation. When it is announced, I will share the link here.
Following my discussion with Simon, I have also written to the Department for Transport to continue to press the case for improvements to the Eastern Section of the East West Rail project beyond Cambridge to help further boost connectivity for my constituents.
