Improving infrastructure is key to unlocking opportunities and growth for individuals and businesses, and as MP for South East Cambridgeshire, I have repeatedly pressed the case for our area with Ministers and officials.
I was delighted, therefore, to hear in a briefing on Friday that the Government is forging ahead with the final phase of East West Rail, connecting Bedford to Cambridge.
I appreciate that many of my constituents have shared my concerns about the prospect of a northern route into Cambridge, which would have impacted my constituents in several villages, including in Histon, Impington, Milton, Landbeach, Waterbeach, Horningsea and Fen Ditton. These are concerns I have communicated at every stage of the process, including in my response to the public consultation and in discussions with Ministers.
I am pleased to say that the Department for Transport has recognised these concerns.
