Many constituents have been in touch about refugees from Ukraine offers of accommodation. I have been humbled by the incredible response from my constituents seeking to play their part in providing safe haven for those forced to flee their own homes by Putin’s unprovoked and anti-democratic act of aggression.
Following a statement in the House of Commons, the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme is now live: https://homesforukraine.campaign.gov.uk/
This new scheme that operates alongside the existing Ukrainian Family Visa scheme, will offer a route for those who want to come to the UK but who do not have a family member already here. Individuals, charities, community groups and businesses are able to volunteer accommodation for those forced to leave Ukraine. Sponsors should provide accommodation for as long as they are able, but there is a minimum expectation of 6 months.
If you are interested in volunteering accommodation for refugees fleeing Ukraine, then I would encourage you to register your interest in the scheme by visiting the website.
If you already have a named person who you wish to sponsor you should get in contact with them directly and prepare to fill in a visa application with all their details and yours. The visa application process goes live today.
