Yesterday the Prime Minister announced a proposed national lockdown which will take place from Thursday 5th November until Wednesday 2nd December.
Subject to the vote in Parliament this week, the lockdown will set out that people must stay at home and only leave home for specific reasons including education, work (if you cannot work from home) to shop for food and essentials, to exercise outdoors, to provide care for vulnerable people, for medical reasons/appointments and to escape injury or harm.
I am pleased that schools, universities and other learning settings will remain safely open during the proposed lockdown – it is important that there is no more disruption to the learning of children and students.
There is no doubt that a second lockdown is challenging and unwelcome news, but it is important that we help flatten the curve in the East of England and across the country to prevent further spread of the virus. We are all aware of the huge financial and social cost as well as the impact on public morale that a national lockdown will have in terms of jobs, livelihoods as well as mental health and other health conditions – I will continue to help and support my constituents throughout this challenging time.
