In February, I convened a meeting with Greater Anglia and British Transport Police to call for more secure cycle facilities at Cambridge North Station after some of my constituents reported to me a spate of bike thefts on the premises.
I am pleased to announce today that the cost of installing secure fencing and 20 additional cameras has now been met, with funds coming from Sustrans, Cambridgeshire County Council and Greater Anglia's own purse. I am especially grateful to Greater Anglia for committing its own resource after I asked them to consider their ability to make up the funding shortfall.
Greater Anglia are now finalising the design of the security improvements, and expect to be on site to start construction during the Autumn.
I hope this brings assurance to any constituents who wish to take their bike to Cambridge North Station.
