I recently enjoyed discussing local issues with residents of Snailwell at the George and Dragon pub.
I noted the number of my constituents who felt strongly about road and footpath quality, which I know is a sentiment shared by the Government, who have allotted Cambridgeshire County Council an additional £3 million this financial year (and £91 million over the next ten) for repairs. I pledged to hold the county council accountable for road quality and report any issues where they remain outstanding.
A number of other residents shared their ongoing concern about Sunnica Ltd’s application to the National Planning Inspectorate for a large and sprawling solar farm in the area. I have expressed my robust opposition to this scheme alongside the Say No to Sunnica Action Group for several years in the form of written and oral submissions, and I share my constituents’ hope that it is rejected by the Planning Inspectorate.
Others mentioned that they struggle with local access to electric charging points, which I noted. The Government’s plans are extensive for EV charging – 300,000 public EV charge-points are set to be installed by 2030 (equivalent to almost 5 times the number of fuel pumps on our roads today) – and I will call for them to be efficiently and fairly deployed in our area.
