Last week, Matt Hancock MP and I held an open meeting to in Isleham to meet with residents from East Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk to discuss the proposed Sunnica Solar Farm, which will impact on both of our constituencies.
The turnout of more than 200 people highlights the strong concerns so many have about this project. Issues raised at the meeting include the safety of lithium-ion batteries, the loss of agricultural land, the effect on the natural environment and the impact of construction lives and livelihoods. Following this meeting, Matt and I are writing to Sunnica to express our disappointment at Sunnica’s failure to attend this meeting.
Whilst our constituents are in favour of clean renewable energy, they rightly have a number of concerns, which they do not feel are being adequately addressed by the developer. I will look at Sunnica’s submission, along with the Action Group and Parish Council Alliance that have formed in response to their proposals to ensure the concerns of my constituents are being actively considered as part of the process.
If anyone is interested in receiving my email updates relating to the Sunnica project and the steps I am taking, please do contact me at [email protected], and include your full postal address.
