Swaffham Prior is to benefit from £3.3m of Government funding, enabling the village to transition from oil to low carbon heat using a hybrid Ground Source Heat Pump and Air Source Heat Pump.
The project, which is the first of its kind, has been spearheaded by members of the village, Swaffham Community Land Trust and Cambridge County Council. This funding follows a meeting I arranged in November last year with local councillors and the Minister, Kwasi Kwarteng MP where they were able to present the benefits of the scheme on the local community and the environment.
This is such fantastic news and can be used as a blueprint for other areas across our region and across the country on how renewable energy can be used to decarbonise and provide affordable energy.
The Government is committed to achieving net zero by 2050 and ahead of COP26, and decarbonising both at home and encouraging other nations across the world.
