Last week I met with the Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, Jan Thomas to discuss the vaccination rollout in South East Cambridgeshire and across the region. I am pleased that local vaccination sites at the Staploe Medical Centre in Soham and Cathedral Medical Centre in Ely were able to quickly set up and deliver some of the first vaccinations for local people in our region.
More local vaccination sites across the region will come on stream in the coming days and weeks, with Addenbrooke's hospital currently live and vaccinating many people in the South of the constituency, with Royal Papworth due to also start vaccinations this week. Rollout of vaccinations is moving quickly, and locally we are on track to get the 4 priority cohorts as determined by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) vaccinated by mid-February.
The first group of GP practices, part of Ely North and South Primary Care Networks, began vaccinating local care home residents and staff in their own care homes last week. This is part of a concerted effort to try and get all care home residents and staff vaccinated by 24th January.
If people are registered with a local GP they will be contacted via email, text, phone or letter when it is their turn to book an appointment. This may vary slightly between different areas in our region due to how the vaccines are made available and distributed, but local residents who fall into the 4 priority groups will be contacted by their nearest vaccine centre as soon as it is available for them. If you are not registered with a GP, the CCG recommends that you register with a GP as soon as possible.
Some residents in the south of my constituency may have received a letter from the national NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service inviting them to book an appointment at a regional Vaccination Centre, the closest of which is at Stevenage. There are currently 17 mass vaccination centres, but the NHS are working hard to open up more of these sites. However, if local people are unable or don’t want to go to a Vaccination Centre, they can choose to wait and get their vaccination at a nearby local GP which is delivering vaccinations or a hospital hub.
