Recently, I met with the owners of Ben's Yard Ely in Stuntney, Alastair and Victoria Morbey, and popped into all the shops to see how they are getting on as we approach the first anniversary the development.
A common theme in all of my conversations was their desire to see a cycle way and a bus stop introduced to improve access to and from the site for customers without cars.
After taking their comments on board, I have written to Stephensons of Essex to ask that the firm considers installing an additional stop on the No.112 route from Ely to Newmarket, especially given the service currently runs past the site.
I have also been in contact with East Cambridgeshire District Council about plans for a cycleway. It is my understanding that the council’s Bus, Cycle and Walk Working Party are due to report into the Finance and Assets Committee on 28 March 2024. Work has begun on the study for the route and when possibilities are available, both the Ward and Parish Councillors will be consulted.
