The Cambridge Acorn Project is a charity which offers long-term therapeutic support to people who have suffered adverse childhood experiences, such as trauma, abuse and financial hardship. In recent years, the charity has received £800,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund, and further money from the County Council’s Cultivate Fund.
At the project in Soham, the charity adopt a range of methods, including art, drama and music therapy, and provide a space where community can thrive amongst its participants. I spoke to two constituents who currently use the services provided by the Cambridge Acorn Project, and they stressed how beneficial it had been to their mental health.
We also discussed the importance of youth services to the community, which is an issue close to my heart and one that I am working to improve. This sits alongside the Government’s national drive in this area, demonstrated by the recent funding for the Youth Investment Fund.
