Recruiting more police officers to fight crime locally is one of my top priorities and I enjoyed visiting the Cambridgeshire Constabulary headquarters in Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon last week to meet new recruits and see the training they are receiving.
Many of the new recruits I spoke to at the training day have changed career and it was great to hear their enthusiasm and commitment to serving our community.
The Government has committed to delivering an extra 20,000 police officers nationally, and I am pleased that Cambridgeshire Constabulary has hit its uplift recruitment target more than 9 months early.
Reducing crime and increasing police officer numbers are important for constituents, and I will continue to support the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable to ensure our region gets its fair share of new police officers.
