It was a real pleasure to visit Cavendish School at their temporary accommodation last week, meeting with staff and students to see their inspiring work. I particularly enjoyed talking to some of the children about their interests and hobbies, which included sketching and cooking, and I was delighted to see how the school was encouraging them in their extra-curricular pursuits. The children described their new school and teachers to me as “brilliant” and their social development was clear to see.
Cavendish School is the world’s first IB special autism school, opening earlier this month for students from year 7. It will welcome students from Years 3-6 from January 2022. The school will bring a number of opportunities for children across the region and I look forward to visiting it when it opens on its new site in the near future.
