Today is World Environment Day 2023, when we recognise the priceless value of our planet and encourage action to protect it.
Recently, I met with the owners of College Farm in Haddenham, who have devoted themselves to their local environment through their rewilding project. Rewilding is a way of rebuilding a natural ecosystem by creating wild spaces, and it certainly seemed to be working on the farm, with skylarks, partridges and bees all visibly busy at work!
The restoration and creation of wildlife-rich habitats like this is an important objective of the Government, and it has committed in the Environment Act to 500,000 extra hectares (approx. 2000 square miles) over the next two decades.
It was great to see that the farm is joining in with these efforts and, in the process, creating an enjoyable place to visit, with 3000-5000 year-old bog oak sculptures and other pieces of nature-themed art also on offer around the site.
