I had an enjoyable visit to Impington Village College last week, taking part in their debating competition.
The topic was 'Should tuition fees be abolished?' The two teams put forward some compelling arguments. For the proposition - they consolidate inequality, free education may lead to a more intelligent society and 24 countries have no fees at all. For the opposition, the arguments included that fees should be paid by those wanting to study, and dropout rates are higher elsewhere. Congratulations to the winners, Rose and Marina!
We discussed what it is like to debate in the House of Commons - and I shared some tips on how to deliver a point of order. Thank you for the warm welcome!
