Oliver Cromwell’s house is one of our local treasures, and I was pleased to visit the attraction once again.
I was shown round the house by Nora Gardiner, tour guide and Anna Bennett, Tourism and Town Manager for Oliver Cromwell’s House/Ely Tourist Information Centre.
Inhabited by Oliver Cromwell and family in the 17th Century, some parts of the house date back to the 13th Century. The tour explained the life and times of the Cromwell family, and the history of Britain in the 17th century, including how ‘pot helmets’ were used by armies in the English Civil War.
The House has been popular this year, hosting a variety of escape room parties, conferences and guided tours. Do pay the house a visit over the summer- it is fascinating and you may even encounter a ghost or two!
