Active travel routes lend many benefits to a community. Cycling and walking networks are good for health, good for the planet and good for the economy if they better connect people to their local high streets. That is why I have supported investment in multiple new routes across the constituency.
However, it is also important that those responsible listen to the views of local people and take people with them.
Recently, I met with Milton Parish who have several concerns about the ‘Waterbeach Greenway’, which at present, the GCP has proposed will go through the heart of Milton village. Parish councillors told me that they have not felt listened to, have not been invited to contribute their local knowledge and have had their favoured option dismissed in the planning process.
I will be writing to the GCP to ask that they re-consider consultation before proceeding with their plans and to ask why alternative routes are not being considered.
