Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, visited the Dick White Referrals Specialist Hospital in her constituency to discover more about the local employer and the state-of-the-art veterinary care offered for pets across the region. Part of the Pets at Home Group, the Dick White Referrals Specialist Hospital is one of the largest specialist veterinary centres in Europe.
The MP was welcomed by Pets at Home’s Head of Media and Corporate Affairs Gillian Hammond and Clinical Director at Dick White Referrals Rob Foale. She was given a tour during which she heard how the specialist hospital ensures world class care for all animals that come through the door.
On the tour Ms Frazer was shown the extensive services available, including hydrotherapy, MRI scanning, diagnostic pathology and vital surgeries. In addition, the hospital features an on-site reference laboratory with both clinical and diagnostic histopathology.
The site also includes the DWR Academy, which delivers Level 2 Diploma Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) and Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing courses, with apprentices employed across the practice. The DWR Academy was created as a response to the recognised shortage of qualified veterinary nurses and nursing assistants across the UK.

This was an opportunity for me to see first-hand the impressive skillset and dedication of these veterinary professionals. The hospital has great facilities and it is exciting to see the on-site training on offer for those interested in joining the profession. Animals across the region are in safe hands!”
