The Greenways scheme is at the forefront of local efforts to improve cycleways, by constructing routes between central Cambridge and nearby villages. These routes will reduce pressure on public transport, offer more environmentally friendly ways to commute to work, and improve safety for cyclists. You can learn more about the scheme here:
As your MP, I'm committed to making sure that the six cycleways that will connect the city centre to villages in our local area are completed as soon as possible. The routes to Fulbourn, Waterbeach, and Linton have already been approved, and the routes to Horningsea, Bottisham, and the Swaffhams will be considered for final approval at the meeting of the Greater Cambridge Partnership's Executive Board next month.
I have this week written to the chairman of the board to set out the value of these schemes, and the way in which approval would dove-tail with the increased level of national support that the Government is providing to enhance cycling in the years ahead.
I am very hopeful that these three schemes will be given the go ahead, and I will report back in October once they have been considered.
