Last month, East West Rail (EWR) launched a non-statutory consultation which will provide members of the public the opportunity to offer their views on the organisation’s plans. The consultation will run until June 9th, and further details can be found here: https://eastwestrail.co.uk/consultation.
I recently discussed the consultation document with EWR’s Chief Executive, Simon Blanchflower, and believe that the project will play an important role in improving connectivity along the OxCam Arc, boosting the economic growth of our region as we build back better from the coronavirus pandemic.
The document outlines EWR’s preferred route into Cambridge via the south of Cambridge and through Cambridge South Station. This route is compared against a potential route into Cambridge via Cambridge North Station, which would take the route near Histon, Impington, Milton, Landbeach, Waterbeach and Horningsea in my constituency.
I would encourage my constituents, particularly those in the villages above to engage with this important project, and share your thoughts on the potential route into Cambridge with EWR. If you are a constituent and have any queries about this project and in particular the route into Cambridge, please do contact me at [email protected].
Going forward, I will also continue to pursue improvements to the Eastern Section of the East West Rail project beyond Cambridge to help further boost connectivity for my constituents.
