As we approach the start of the new school year, I am aware of concerns surrounding road safety outside the new Primary School on Glebe Way in Histon, which opened in January 2021. I have followed these concerns up with the County Council, who are responsible for road safety, and am assured that a third Road Safety Audit was completed in March 2021 once schools had returned for face-to-face teaching. The actions agreed as part of this Audit include widening the footpath, carrying out speed monitoring, installing speed activated signs outside the school, and installing double yellow lines on Cottenham Road. The Council say that they will consider the case for a 20mph zone outside the school in due course, once a speed survey has been carried out and I will continue to press for this, should it be clear that this is what is needed to ensure safety.
