In December, I wrote to the Department for Education to express my support for Ely College's planned increase to the capacity of their sixth form from 300 to 400 learners.
I was delighted to hear yesterday that the department has granted permission for this expansion, and with it, has provided additional capital funds from its £140 million ‘Post-16 Capacity Fund’ to accommodate the extra pupils.
This investment reflects the anticipated future demand for student places in East Cambridgeshire and symbolises the region’s status as a ‘Priority Education Investment Area’.
