Our farmers work tirelessly all year round to stock our shops with delicious home-grown food. They deserve enormous praise and support.
In recognition of this fact, farmers in my constituency have received a further £251,673 through the Government's Farming Equipment and Technology Fund. The fund is designed to help farms boost productivity, reduce the spread of pests and diseases, and cut input costs, which will promote both the resilience of businesses and the security of our food supplies.
The Government has also this week launched a new and improved Sustainable Farming Incentive for August 2023, to encourage sustainable farming practices that benefit the environment. Farmers will be eligible for payments every three months if they take actions that cultivate soil health and moorland, hedgerows, and farmland wildlife, to name a few.
When adopted at scale, these actions will support sustainable food production and contribute towards the environmental targets set out in the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan.
