To coincide with ‘Back British Farming’ Day, I welcomed the Farming Minister, Mark Spencer, to the G’s Fresh Ely site last week.
G's is one of Europe’s biggest fresh produce companies, growing over 13,000 hectares of crop across five countries, and serving all major UK retailers with its fresh produce.
During the visit, we were given a tour of the 800 hectare site and shown inside the harvesting rig, which allows workers to complete the production process out in the field.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing government support for farmers, including accelerated payments for farmers on the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme, overseas worker visas, and support for a retail campaign to encourage customers to “buy British”.
