I appreciate that a number of constituents have concerns about the impact of closing ticket offices on vulnerable passengers, including the elderly and those with disabilities. I recently met the East Cambridgeshire Access Group, who feel particularly strongly about this issue, to hear their thoughts.
I have written to Greater Anglia, who operate Ely Station, to seek reassurance that their proposed measures will not result in a deterioration in the quality of service for vulnerable passengers and that the number of staffed hours at the station will remain the same. I will be looking closely at their proposals for alternative provision very carefully and will raise any deficiencies with the Secretary of State for Transport.
I will work with others locally to ensure that the overall service is not diminished.
